Funerals
Death is inevitable, both for us and for those of our family. As Christians
we know that death is not the end, and we rest secure in the knowledge
that God is going to continue watching over us for ever. It is not something
that we avoid discussing or even dread happening. In some ways we even
look forward to it and rejoice at the privilege granted those who have
gone before us. One day we will share that privilege!
We pray that you will call the priest at the time of
death. Even when this is not possible, the clergy would like to be a
part of the support, counsel, and planning as quickly as possible.
We encourage funerals to be held at the church. You are both commending
the deceased to God and affirming your own faith. It is appropriate that
this be done in God's house, a place that connects your life to God.
Communion is also encouraged. Funerals are an Easter liturgy, forward-looking,
and not
simply a service honoring
the deceased.
Columbarium
St. John's houses a Columbarium in the narthex.
Columbariums are built to hold the ashes of those who have been cremated.
Located near the main entrance, it is always open for your visit when
the building is open. You will find a quiet place to pray, reflect, or
light an honorary candle.
If you would like additional information about the Columbarium, just
call the parish office.
